Introducing HeadUp 1.3 (iOS): Now With Guided Posture Exercises

2025-6-13

Posture tracking is powerful, but it’s only the beginning.

At HeadUp, our goal has always been to help you build better posture habits, not just alert you when you slouch. And now, with the release of HeadUp 1.3, we’re excited to take the next step with you.

In this update, we’ve introduced a new beta feature: guided exercises designed to help you stretch tight muscles and strengthen the ones that support healthy posture. Whether you’re dealing with forward head posture, tech neck, or just feeling stiff from sitting too long, this is for you.

Let’s break down what’s new, why it matters, and how to get started.

Why Posture Awareness Isn't Enough

Don’t get us wrong, being aware of your posture throughout the day is crucial. That’s why we built HeadUp in the first place. But awareness alone doesn’t fully solve the problem.

If your muscles are tight, weak, or imbalanced from years of sitting, slouching, or screen time, it takes more than reminders to fix it.

You need movement. You need consistency. And most importantly, you need simple exercises that actually work.

That’s what HeadUp 1.3 brings to the table.

What’s New in HeadUp 1.3

In this update, you’ll find a new section inside the app: “Exercises”.

Here’s what it includes:

  • Guided routines focused on posture correction
  • A mix of stretching and strengthening movements
  • A built-in timer to guide you through each set
  • Clear instructions and visuals to keep it simple
  • Beginner-friendly by design

This is still a beta feature, which means we’re actively improving it and looking for your feedback. But it’s already a great way to start moving with purpose.

Why These Exercises Matter

We hand-picked these routines based on what posture science (and physical therapists) recommend most often.

The goal is to help you:

  • Activate weak muscles in the neck, upper back, and core
  • Stretch tight areas like the chest, front shoulders, and traps
  • Undo the effects of sitting all day in front of a screen

A few examples of exercises you’ll find:

  • Chin Tucks – strengthens deep neck stabilizers
  • Wall Angels – improves shoulder and upper back mobility
  • Doorway Chest Stretch – opens tight pectorals
  • Cat-Cow or Neck Rolls – encourages movement and blood flow

Each session takes just a few minutes, but done regularly, these movements make a real difference.

How to Try the Exercises

Getting started is simple:

  1. Make sure you’ve updated to HeadUp 1.3
  2. Open the app and tap on “Exercises” in the TabBar
  3. Choose a routine (we’ve started with foundational options)
  4. Follow the timer or the numer of sets and instructions that’s it

We recommend starting with 1 short session per day, especially after long work blocks or before bed.

Why We Added This Feature

We built HeadUp to help people improve posture passively, using the tech they already wear. But as we grew, we saw one clear pattern:

“I know I slouch. But how do I actually fix it?”

Adding guided exercises felt like the next obvious step.

We want HeadUp to be more than a tracker, we want it to help you take action. These new routines are your first steps toward that.

What’s Coming Next

This is just the beginning. Over the next few updates, we’re planning to:

  • Add more routines for different goals (like deep work recovery or pre-sleep resets)
  • Include progress tracking
  • Offer personalized plans based on how you’re slouching
  • Eventually support habit-building features to keep you consistent

As always, we’re building this alongside your feedback. If there’s a stretch or routine you’d love to see. Please let us know.

Final Thoughts

Fixing your posture isn’t about being perfect. It’s about becoming more aware, more intentional, and more consistent.

With HeadUp 1.3, you now have two powerful tools working together:

  • Real-time posture tracking using your AirPods
  • Guided posture exercises to support long-term change

So if you’ve been feeling tight, stiff, or tired of slouching — open the app, try a routine, and give your body the movement it’s been missing.

Let’s make posture improvement simple, one nudge and stretch at a time.
